Austin City Limits Music Festival 2013 has begun and the lineup of the first day performers did not disappoint. Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age turned in raucous performances that built up the energy of the night leading into headliners Depeche Mode and Muse. The latter exceeded the 10pm end time that was listed and continued performing until the sound cut off due to a broken generator. The band left the stage and a disappointed crowd started to slowly disperse until bassist Chris Wolstenholme returned to the stage to start “Knights of Cydonia”, which the band was able to perform in its entirety.
Earlier acts of Jimmy Eat World, Thao with The Get Down Stay Down, FIDLAR, Okkervil River, Jake Bugg and others turned in solid performances that impressed the diverse crowd of both families and music-heads who attended the festival.
