I’ll be honest, I’m not ashamed to do a dramatic Lana Del Rey impression every now and then. Her song “Young and Beautiful” released this past April, and constantly remixed by the likes of Kaskade, was composed for the film adaptation of “The Great Gatsby.” The video released a month later showcasing Lana in a combination of Old Hollywood glam and a bit of street wear–as she usually does on a day-to-day basis with Converse and a bold lip.
Lana dons a sleek, long-sleeved black gown with iced-out hoop earrings, a magenta pout and Old Hollywood glam curls. Oh, and the diamond-encrusted tears. The vintage waves are made up of a good, deep side part, a 1″ barrel curling iron and a solid hairspray. This tutorial is key to avoid burning bits of your hair off. The magenta pout is a simple swipe of my favorite NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil in “Damned.”
The black gown is something that never tires–we’ve all heard of a classic, LBD–but it can be done up in various ways and still considered “Great Gatsby”-esque. H&M has three options that are reasonable:
–A long dress with a mesh insert if you’re feeling a bit more lavish
-A simpler, black jersey knit dress, also a maxi
–Black, structured sheath if you aren’t into a floor-sweeping gown
All three can be done up with the rhinestone-studded hoops, if you so desire, and a simple lip. Or, try other 1920’s accessories like an embellished headpiece, long-chained necklace or small clutch. The bling tears are optional, too. Channel your inner Lana!
