Skorts (the kin of a skirt and shorts) were a genius combination on the playground–you could still be a lady and play Lava Monster–and luckily they’re making a classy comeback.
The fitted trouser shorts are now being hidden beneath an angular and structured skirt. Zara’s Mini Skort in red, white and black options are an example of how the former spandex, patterned piece has transformed into a staple to take from brunch, to work, to happy hour.
As a young professional, not a lot of companies include shorts in the dress code. A dressy skort might be your golden ticket for when the weather transitions to an actual San Francisco summer in the fall. For when it’s a warmer day at the office this summer, the white “Ecru” skort fits with Top Shop’s Beaded Rainbow Jacket and a pair of neutral ankle boots.
Swap the blazer for a cropped leather jacket, like Nasty Gal’s Moto Zip Crop Jacket over my fave Bad News Babes tee from Feather Heart for an after-work happy hour or show. That’ll work for day, too and when there’s a warm weekend in SF, pop on Madewell’s Hepcat Shades in clear.
It’s easy to feel trapped in your workplace’s dress code, but you can also seamlessly mix & match your everyday items with a sculpted piece like a trustworthy skort. Venus & Serena aren’t the only ones who can rock it.
