Lollapalooza 2013 has been announced and the stellar lineup includes, The Cure, Mumford & Sons, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, The Postal Service, Vampire Weekend, New Order, Queens of the Stone Age, The Lumineers, and The National.
The Cure graces the Lolla lineup for the first time ever, a long-time hope of festival founder and Jane’s Addiction frontman, Perry Farrell. “The first time I ran into Robert Smith of The Cure was 1997 in New York City,” Farrell recalls, “We were both going into the same club; and it was Halloween. I was dressed as myself and so was he. I am so happy The Cure have finally arrived at Lolla in Chicago!”
Nine Inch Nails, who played the original Lollapalooza in 1991, are on their first tour in four years and returning to Lolla for the first time since 2008. Lolla alum Mumford & Sons have skyrocketed from their mid-day performance in 2010 to a headlining role this August, on the heels of their GRAMMY award for Album of the Year for “Babel”.
Also among the 130-band-strong lineup are Kendrick Lamar, Eric Church, Ellie Goulding, Thievery Corporation, Grizzly Bear, Lana Del Ray, Band of Horses, Hot Chip, Azealia Banks, Local Natives, and Two Door Cinema Club.
Perry’s namesake stage will once again keep the heartbeat of the festival pumping as the all-day dance destination will host Steve Angello, Knife Party, Steve Aoki, Flux Pavilion, Major Lazer, Dog Blood, Dada Life, Dillon Francis, Adventure Club, GriZ, and so many more.
In the ongoing spirit of artist discovery, this year’s lineup offers notable new talent to fall in love with including Death Grips, Jessie Wair, HAIM, Australian rapper 360, MS MR, Little Green Cars, and Wake Owl. And as a cultural exchange with our South American Lollapalooza family, joining the lineup is Plant Hemp from Brazil, and Chicago Astro.
Lollapalooza three-day passes sold out on March 26th within three hours of going on sale. A limited number of Single Day Passes will be available this Wednesday, April 3, at 10am CST. VIP and Platinum Passes, as well as Travel Packages, are available now at lollapalooza.com
