X Games 2012 went down this past weekend, June 28-July 1, which was a little earlier than in previous years, but the athletes still brought their A-game to the event. Highlights from the weekend included the highly touted “Legends vs. The Young Bucks” in various skate competitions where skaters Jagger Eaton, Mitchie Brusco, Trey Wood, and Tom Schaar, who are all 15 or under, faced off against the likes of X Games veterans Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek and Pierre-Luc Gagnon. Taka Higashino took home gold and silver medals for his amazing tricks that included a never-before-seen backflip Rock Solid double grab in the Moto X Best Trick. Garrett Reynolds and Jamie Bestwick continued their X Games gold dominance, topping all for their fifth and sixth consecutive gold medals in the BMX Street and BMX Vert competitions, respectively. The side attraction of the event was the highly touted “Hot Wheels” Double Loop where Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy pulled off the two car race through a gravity-defying loop, based on the popular kids toy. The increasingly popular Enduro-X rounded out the event with both the Women and Men’s races tested the skill and endurance of the professional motocross riders. Maria Forsberg repeated as a gold medal winner for the event and the oldest competitor in the event, Mike Brown, 40, picked up his first gold medal in what many regard as one of the toughest events of the entire competition.
