Tuesday night at The Backyard in Austin, TX brought together some truly talented artists for a great show, and B-Sides was there! Colbie Callait came onstage after Andy Grammer warmed up the crowd on the warm Texas afternoon.
Speaking to the crowd about the perils of love, and sharing heart felt advice with all the women in the audience, Colbie Callait managed a cute, and warm beginning to a nice evening. Playing songs from her latest album “All of You” and her latest single “Favorite Song,” along with hits like “Bubbly” and “Brighter than the Sun.”
After a great set by Colbie, Gavin DeGraw hit the stage at 9:15, with the sun just having set, and a perfectly chilled summer night setting in. His energy was apparent, and with the wind conveniently blowing his shirt around, he looked lie a true rock star on his multi-piece stage. While most acts save the best for last, it only took 3 songs for Gavin to arrive at “I Don’t Wanna Be” which prompted a unified crowd sing along.
After teasing the crowd a bit with his dance moves, along with some banter regarding his participation in Dancing With The Stars, Mr. DeGraw proceeded to walking along the sides of the stage, graciously grabbing the hands of screaming girl who pushed past security to get that close.
The crowd pleasers just kept coming, as he engrossed the attention of the entire audience by fluctuating between new and old. He asked “How many of you remember Chariot?” which was promptly answered by screams throughout the entire venue. He graced the piano and audience with “Chariot,” another song that produced enthusiastic crowd participation, the kind that makes those concert experiences so very special as you look around you and see everyone mouthing the words.
The excitement, coordination, and overall showmanship portrayed was breathtaking. Gavin DeGraw know show to put on a show, and the crowd loved it.
If there was anything that made people doubt that Gavin DeGraw still had it, since his first album is still his only Platinum one, then they haven’t seen his live show. Moms and teenagers came out in throngs to scream for the “Soldier” singer, and they left happy. The Backyard provided the perfect atmosphere for the 35 year old singer to be loud and have fun. If you get a chance, check out his tour.
