LIVE REVIEW: Nova Tour ft. R.L. Grime Lands in Nashville

Kittens, Graves, and R.L. Grime stopped off in Nashville as part of their Nova Tour, drawing in a packed house despite it being the night after Halloween.  Lauren “Kittens” Abedini started the night off, increasing the energy as the crowd steadily grew.  The L.A. based DJ got her start mixing in college, but before long she was performing at private parties for stars like Usher and opening for Kid Cudi on tour.  Her set up was very minimalist in terms of lights, but did not take away from her laid –back vibe and slightly soulful set. 15808

Maybe they were struggling against the Monday lull or remembered Bloc Party from electroclash club nights in the early 2000s. Either way, they weren't sitting still. Openers the Vaccines satiated their need. Two girls told security, “We came all the way from Atlanta just to see the Vaccines. We don't even know who this other band is.” The Vaccines' energetic performance warranted their devotion. Frontman Justin Young’s rubbery expressions, punk rock eyes, and convulsive dance moves are mesmerizing, perfectly suited to the Vaccines' musical concoction

ON RADAR: Night Beds

Every once in a while a band will come along that really captures your attention. From out of no where they shake things up and bring something new, genuine, and refreshing to the table. This band for me, has been Night Beds. Founded by Winston Yellen, this band resembles the likes of Jeff Buckley; featuring hauntingly beautiful lyrics and harmonies. 7881
