ALBUM REVIEW: Franz Ferdinand – ‘Always Ascending’

Since their last release almost five years ago, Franz Ferdinand return with a slightly altered lineup on Always Ascending, released February 9th.<!—more—> Not quite fifteen years since Franz Ferdinand made their international breakthrough with the catchy single “Take Me Out”, the band finds themselves in a much different musical atmosphere trying to catch the attention their debut attracted.  The danceable pop rock of the early 2000s, with its clean and crisp guitars and nerdy aesthetics, has certainly evolved into a more electronic territory as many bands from that era spent the last decade meticulously blending the genres with few enjoyable results.

The Miami Music Week 2016 Marathon

Living in Miami during March is a struggle. There are too many tourists, spring breakers everywhere, conventions every other day and the terrible traffic leads to the worst road rage imaginable. The only consolation we get is a week where Ibiza empties out and clubs, hotels and streets turn into venues for all that is electronic music. Miami Music week is the highlight of the year for many. Pool parties, beach events, artsy pop-up events and island pachangas become a norm. Then to finalize the week with a bang is three day Ultra Music Festival. 13437

Mad Decent Boat Party 2015 not too Decent

I woke up in the neatly folded bed in my giraffe onesie. The silence was what shocked me the most as I slogged around the room trying to figure out how I ended up there the night before. The bowling alley wasn't even open for others on the ship. After minutes of walking around the desolate room, it became clear that due to lack of sleep (from the non-stop bass),  I had accidentally stumbled across the only peaceful room on the Mad Decent Boat Party. 12852

EDM has grown from an underground, niche portion of the alternative music genre to the dominating choice of format for top-40 mainstream radio. Popular artists from all genres are collaborating with EDM artists ranging from Calvin Harris teaming up with Florence Welch and Rihanna to Hayley Williams and Zedd, and more recently, Coldplay working with Avicii. As fun as these songs are and as much as we're fans of EDM, we're changing things up with this post and just in time for the weekend we have some awesome non-EDM songs that are just as strong to get the party going.
