PHOTO REVIEW: Wolf Alice – Rickshaw Stop, San Francisco, CA 7/24/2017

It’s only been two years since Wolf Alice released their debut album My Love Is Cool but it’s felt like longer, as the band had been touring non-stop in support of the material. Along the way, the band garnered numerous accolades, award nominations and an immense and loyal fanbase. The London-based band finally has new music to share, having released two singles from their forth-coming sophomore album, Visions Of A Life, which will be released on September 29 via Dirty Hit Records/RCA Records. “Yuk Foo” and “Don’t Delete the Kisses” are a taste of what’s to come from the album and what would be expected from Wolf Alice. Wolf Alice played the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco, the second to last date of their U.S. club shows before hitting the larger venues that await them in Europe.

The band has been taking the opportunity during this tour to give a sneak peek at some of the new material, as they played 5 new songs from Visions Of A Life. The show started out with the aforementioned “Don’t Delete the Kisses”, which fit naturally into their biggest U.S. radio hit to date, “Bros”. The attentive crowd was raucous and yet at times, settled down as the setlist Wolf Alice crafted allowed a breather or two after continuous jumping, dancing and at times, mashing. This was evident as the band kept the chatter down and tore through “You’re a Germ”, “Yuk Foo”, “Lisbon”, “Visions of a Life” and “Your Love’s Whore” before settling into “Blush”.

Thee new material allowed Wolf Alice lead singer, Ellie Rowsell, to showcase her great vocal range while the accompanying guitar work of Joff Oddie was a driving force that kept the crowd sweating and dancing along. Ending the show with the band’s introductory tunes, “Giant Peach and “Moaning Lisa Smile”, Wolf Alice left the audience craving for more and eager for the new album to drop.
