PHOTO REVIEW: Outside Lands 2016 Day Three

major lazer- OSL16Outside Lands 2016 was on the verge of becoming one of the more chillier weekends of the eight-year event but alas the sun made its appearance and warmed up the crowd for the final day of great music. With the sun shining, British duo Oh Wonder provided the perfect soundtrack to lounge on a blanket and enjoying some of the great food. Things picked up as both Jack Garratt and Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem delivered solid sets, especially the former, whose one-man show demonstrates how talented Jack Garratt is.

Third Eye Blind delivered all of the familiar 90s songs from the band’s catalog that included “Jumper,” “Graduate” and “Semi-charmed Life.” Prior to the latter song, the San Francisco band launched into a four song David Bowie medley that consisted of ”Young Americans,” “Heroes,” “Modern Love,” “Ziggy Stardust”) with a 30-person choir (donning fire engine red wigs) and 12-person orchestra on the Lands End Stage in front of a hometown crowd.

In the weekend’s second nod to Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, Major Lazer got the crowd into a frenzy as Diplo rolled into the crowd in hamster ball-type balloon as they performed a highly energetic set.

The night’s final performers, Lana Del Rey and Lionel Richie didn’t need much in the form of pyrotechnics or gimmicks to entertain the audiences. The crowd for Lana swayed and sang along to nearly every song as her voice was on point throughout the night. On the main stage, Richie wasted no time running through his catalog of number one hits that spanned decades and attracted a wide-ranging audience.

Although festival attendees battled the chilly elements at the beginning of the event, the warmth of two solo singers wrapped up a perfect weekend of music at the historic Golden Gate Park.
