Ad- Rock of the Beastie Boys

If you were hoping for a surprise Beastie Boys appearance at one of the many up-coming festivals, you might have to hold up.  B-Boys fans were shocked across the world to hear of Beastie Boy Adam Yauch (a.k.a. MCA) and his bout with a cancerous tumor in his throat.  Now that Yauch has it under control after much treatment, it appears the Beastie Boys will hopes to release their next album record this coming September.  “I’m taking Tibetan medicine and at the recommendation of the Tibetan doctors I’ve been eating a vegan/organic diet, surprisingly enough [that] was harder to do in India than it is now that I’m back home,” he joked.

Many of us kept up with Yauch’s health via YouTube videos made by the Beastie and emails written personally by him.  Now that we’ve become even closer, many of us are more than understanding to last year’s cancelled appearances at major festivals, which included Outside Lands, All Points West and Austin City Limits, and also which delayed the release of their new album, Hot Sauce Committee Part 1.  During the extra time, the other Beasties noted that it was an opportunity to triple-check their homework.  Yauch noted, “we are still happy with it. I don’t think we will change it up too much.”  All of us at B-Sides are thrilled to hear of another Beastie Boys album, and just how many tears will be shed when they make their first stage appearance?

And now the details. Last week left me completely perplexed. I’ve been casually seeing Jersey for about two months and I was really enjoying his company until things suddenly went awry. Oh, and no he isn’t anything like the d-bags from the MTV show, or is he? Long story short, he decides to confess that he lied to me about spending Valentine’s Day with friends; he spent it with a woman he’s been “seeing”. Funny thing is, it’s not that he’s seeing other women that irritates me (and by seeing I mean having sex with), it’s that he lied about it, waits three weeks to tell me, and thinks everything will be cool. Really, guy? Why even mention it at all? I consider myself to be one of the least naïve people I know, so I am pretty sure the answer is for a pure selfish reason – to rid himself of guilt. When I’m newly dating someone, I never assume that he is dating me exclusively (unless otherwise expressed). I do think it’s important to inform one another early on that you are seeing other people. I also think there’s a big difference between saying you’re seeing other people and saying you’re seeing other people because you enjoying having sex with multiple women, which he said after saying “I like you, but I don’t want to hurt you.” With all that manure that has spilled out of his mouth, I think it’s safe to say he has similar qualities to those of his Jersey Shore brethren. Back to the drawing board.

Update: Just as I finished writing the previous paragraph of this post, Jersey said, “It’s probably too little too late… but I would rather date JUST you right now.” What an interesting twist, wouldn’t you say? I’ll spare you those annoying details.

In other news, I witnessed the most brutal bar fight I have ever seen on Saturday night at the Hemlock Tavern. Tits McGee and I were having an innocent night out – two drink max and making conversation with averagely handsome fellas to the right and left of us at the bar. Then, a bro standing immediately to my left (most likely part of the snuggie pub crawl – ugh) gets a fist to the face. Bottles and glasses take flight. Instinctively, in a Matrix-like manner, I lean back, push Tits McGee out of the line of flying debris, and managed to get us away unscathed. So much for knights in shining armor, hmph! Meanwhile, the man who was punched and apparently hit with a beer bottle had blood pouring down his face. Wonder if it was the punkrock or the Snuggies that got those guys all riled up. Rocknroll.

Sunday I accompanied a friend to Ghirardelli Square, who has been living in the Bay Area for the most part of his life and had never been. Crazy, right? There were a few awkward, this-is-kind-of-romantic  moments that got me feeling slightly nostalgic. This friend and I had dated at one point in college and reconnected recently. Is it a bad idea to reignite an old flame, or should it just be left burned out? What do you think? Maybe I’m just a lonely sucker wishing someone would have been there to push me away from those flying beer bottles that were headed toward my face. Maybe I can hire someone. Wait, that’s supporting prostitution. Nevermind.

His family has released a statement reading, “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”

This is what’s written at www.mychemicalromance.com :

“As of four weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways. This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours, and expect you all to do the same.”

There was no particular reason why Bryar left, nor has a replacement been chosen. Perhaps Bryar became sick of the never-ending Black Parade.

Bob Bryar was My Chemical Romance’s second drummer. He replaced founding drummer Matt Pelissier in 2004.

A new album is expected from My Chemical Romance later this year. It will probably be titled The Black Parade III.
