XGames is a sporting event unlike any other. While we have the World Series in baseball and the Super Bowl of football, X Games is the extreme sport equivalent. And just like any other major sporting event, music will surely be involved as well. For the first time in thirteen years, X Games will be hosted in a new home other than Los Angeles. This year’s competitions will be held in Austin, Texas June 5-8 and the inaugural event is featuring a host of acts simultaneous to the competition and into the night with well known artists ranging from Kanye West, Mac Miller and The Flaming Lips to Mayer Hawthorne, Gary Clark Jr., Pretty Lights and many more. The music schedule is a new introduction to the event that will take place at the Austin360 Amphitheater located at Circuit of The Americas. With a mixture of rap, hip hop, punk and everything in between there is something for everyone to get into and get pumped up for some extreme stunts.
The first ever X Games took place in Rhode Island in 1995, featuring sports such as skateboarding, bungee jumping, roller-blading, mountain biking sky surfing, and street luging. The event which was put on by ESPN was so popular that they decided to make it a yearly tradition instead of the planned biennial. Since then X Games have only grown in popularity and has become an event many look forward to all year. With the addition of big name acts playing and the best elite extreme athletes, X Games are not to be missed.
While checking out the elite of their craft of Nyjah Houston, Paul Rodriguez, Jamie Bestwick, Travis Pastrana and others, this year’s events will allow event attendees to check out a slew of amazing artists. Kanye West and The Flaming Lips need no introduction and will surely bring on a performance to be remembered. EDM artists, Pretty Lights, Cash Cash and Candyland are smartly scheduled to take the evening up to new heights after the competitions throughout the weekend. The insanely popular rappers Mac Miller and Dillon Francis have anthems that will keep the X Games crowd hyped along with the local acts that include, Not In Your Face, English Teeth, Magna Carda, Little Radar and Featherface. Let’s not forget that the punk rock that X Games was initially associated with for so long is represented well by Wavves and Bad Religion.
