LIVE REVIEW: Ra Ra Riot – San Francisco, CA 10/30/2019

Ra Ra Riot kicked off their headlining tour earlier this month in support of their recently released fifth studio album, Superbloom. The Superbloom Tour keeps the band on the active touring circuit as they served as support for this summer’s outing with Third Eye Blind and Jimmy Eat World on The Summer Gods Tour. With a mix of throwbacks from their earlier work, the music on Superbloom fit in perfectly as they brought their show to the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.

Kicking off the show with the joyful “Absolutely” and the title track from their third album, “Beta Love”, the band all dressed in white and kept the chatter in between songs to a minimum. Lead singer Wes Miles sang with passion and violinist Rebecca Zeller, with a wind machine blowing to presumably keep her cool on stage while also providing some good photos, was on point during songs like “Boy” and the newer “Dangerous”. Midway through the show, Miles took to the stage alone with guitar in hand to perform “Can You Tell” for a highlight for many in the audience who were both singing along with their phones in hand to capture the moment. Ending the main set with their collaborations with producer Rostam, they performed “Water” and “I Need Your Light”. They got the crowd dancing one more time when coming out for the encore with “A Check For Daniel”, a bouncy highlight from ‘Superbloom’.

With over 10 years of material, Ra Ra Riot proved they have a catalog not just bring back nostalgia from the height of the “blog band” days, but also the creative prowess to create new songs that are just as memorable and into a setlist for a fun live show.
