PHOTOS: X Games 2019 Shines in Minneapolis

It wouldn't be summer without X Games, the premier action sports competition showcasing the best in BMX, moto and skate, combined with amazing musical performances. With headliners Wu-Tang Clan, Diplo and Incubus performing throughout the multi-day event, the best athletes congregated in Minneapolis, MN at US Bank Stadium. The first day of competition kicked off with BMX Vert and two of the best in recent years, veterans Jamie Bestwick and Vince Byron battling for the gold. The youngest in the field at 29, Byron was trailing Bestwick after he laid down an impressive first run to move into the top spot.

Two competitive extreme sport athletes won their first gold medals at X Games on the last day of the inaugural event in Minneapolis. Colton Walker captured gold in BMX Dirt, while Alex Sorgente took home the gold for Skateboard Park. Walker, an X Games rookie who grew up just outside of Minneapolis thrilled the hometown crowd with strong and clean runs highlighted by a 360 double downside whip-to-late bar spin and a flair whip-to-bar spin on the quarter pipe. The inaugural X Games in Minneapolis kicked off with plenty of excitement with the BMX and Skate Vert competitions.  Although there were only two events Thursday evening, the athletes have been slowly trickling in throughout the week to practice, get familiar with the courses and in many instances didn’t hold back during practice. As with its counterpart in skateboarding, BMX Vert also began the BMX action at X Games Austin 2016. But in direct opposition to Skate Vert, BMX Vert gave us a podium filled with veterans and the old guard of the sport. Returning back to his familiar place on top of the podium was Jamie Bestwick, scoring his 14th X Games gold medal, one year after being dethroned after winning gold for nine straight years. Skateboarding’s portion of X Games Austin 2016 kicked off Friday afternoon with the Skate Vert competition. Due to the absence of longtime competitor Andy Macdonald and an injury to defending gold medalist Pierre-Luc Gagnon, the starting field skewed noticeably towards the younger side, providing a breath of fresh air into the showdown. It’s International Surfing Day!

As per the California State Assembly and the Surfrider Foundation, today Wednesday, June 20 is International Surfing Day. X Games Teaser Released for Team Hot Wheels Double Loop Attempt

X Games 18 is just about a week away and a trailer has been released teasing Team Hot Wheels attempt at the double loop. The event will feature renowned RallyCross competitor Tanner Foust and Hollywood stunt driver Greg Tracy, as they attempt to break a World Record for racing two vehicles through a six-story double vertical loop. X-Games Returns to Los Angeles

Tickets are now on sale for the 18th annual edition of X Games. The highly competitive competition will again take place in downtown Los Angeles at STAPLES Center, Nokia Theatre and L.A. LIVE for the Skateboard, BMX, Moto X and Rally Car events featuring more than 200 athletes competing for medals and prize money, June 28 – July 1. Two of the youngest atheletes to ever be invited, 11-year-olds phenom skateboarder, Jagger Eaton and Trey Wood have been invited to compete in this year's competition to participate in the monolithic MegaRamp during the Skateboard Big Air contest.
