PREVIEW: Coachella 2018 – Beyond Eminem, Beyoncé, The Weeknd

I've come to measure my years not by the arrival of January 1st, but rather by the arrival of the annual Coachella lineup announcement. This year is no different than any other in regards to the amount of disappointment plenty of people feel the need to express, but it is different in regards to the diversity of the lineup, including a list of headliners that for the first time in a while features not only no big time reunions, but also no rock acts. Let's take a look at some of the smaller font talent featured for the multi-weekend event.

LIVE REVIEW: Nova Tour ft. R.L. Grime Lands in Nashville

Kittens, Graves, and R.L. Grime stopped off in Nashville as part of their Nova Tour, drawing in a packed house despite it being the night after Halloween.  Lauren “Kittens” Abedini started the night off, increasing the energy as the crowd steadily grew.  The L.A. based DJ got her start mixing in college, but before long she was performing at private parties for stars like Usher and opening for Kid Cudi on tour.  Her set up was very minimalist in terms of lights, but did not take away from her laid –back vibe and slightly soulful set. 15808

R.L. Grime’s Nova Tour Takes Off

Since the debut of “Grapes” in 2012, R.L. Grime has quickly ascended the ranks as one of trap music’s most in demand producers.  It’s almost impossible not to hear his track “Mercy” dropped somewhere in a set, and good luck keeping track of how many times it pops up in sets over the course of a festival weekend. 2017 has been a big year for R.L. Grime.  After closing out 2016 with the release of “Waiting” in collaboration with Skrillex and What So Not, Grime returned with “Reims” in May.  In June, the producer released his own zine on his site

It was after attending a show featuring Swedish group, The Knife that gave Sholler a clear sense of direction to perform and slowly started to write her own electronic music as well as

The Australian band just released their first proper studio album in nearly four years, Haiku From Zero, in September via Astralwerks, which was produced by Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Neon Indian). “When we first started in Australia, there wasn’t really a scene for live electronic music,” recalls Whitford, “You were either someone that would go to

It's been a banner year for Joshua Ostrander, aka Mondo Cozmo. Mondo Cozmo was Ostrander's new project, formed almost immediately after his previous band Eastern Conference Champions ended. Day For Night Lights Up Houston

Describing Houston's Day For Night as a music festival just doesn't cut it. The idea behind the new festival is to showcase artists with a talent for highly visual performances all while exhibiting massive art installations by artists from all over the world. After hearing about the festival back in September, I watched all of the promo videos and trailers and I still arrived in Houston not really sure what to expect.  So is this a festival?  An art exhibition? I found that Day For Night falls somewhere in the middle of the two labels, all while surpassing any previous expectations. At the

LIVE REVIEW: LANY – Ft. Lauderdale, FL Oct. 14, 2016

For the 2nd time in LANY’s music history, they played in Florida and performed an epic concert in Fort Lauderdale, FL. They loved it so much that they told the audience they'd come back to show again. The energy was very high, and the crowd was incredibly excited at their entrance. A majority of the time you’d expect for a band to walk into some randomly obscure sounds or to the drummer kicking it off. That was not the case for LANY as they provided a grand entrance to Whitney Houston singing the National Anthem on a giant screen. It all

LIVE REVIEW: Beach Slang – Orlando, FL October 14, 2016

Beach Slang just released a new record in September entitled, A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings, the record continued the punk ethos and emotional outpouring they had  come to be known for. For a band to release a record, distribute, market, and tour is a hard thing to do. Blessings need to line up in just the right quantum structure for it to become an idea, let alone a physical thing. It’s even harder when you are the only one left of a trio in the middle of that record release circus. Beach Slang vocalist, James Alex, was caught in

PHOTO REVIEW: Outside Lands 2016 Day Three

Outside Lands 2016 was on the verge of becoming one of the more chillier weekends of the eight-year event but alas the sun made its appearance and warmed up the crowd for the final day of great music. With the sun shining, British duo Oh Wonder provided the perfect soundtrack to lounge on a blanket and enjoying some of the great food. Things picked up as both Jack Garratt and Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem delivered solid sets, especially the former, whose one-man show demonstrates how talented Jack Garratt is. The first day of Outside Lands 2016 was met with great anticipation by music fans who attended the event at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco from all over the country.
