Remembering Phife Dawg

As condolences continue to roll in from all over the music industry the legendary emcee, Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called quest(ATCQ), is being remembered all over the world for his unforgettable presence and powerful influence in the hip-hop world. On March 22nd, 2016 the news was delivered that Phife Dawg had passed away at the early age of 45, due to complications with his fight against diabetes. The emcee had been dealing with diabetes since the early 2000’s, so this was not a new situation, however I don’t think anyone could have predicted this so early.  The other members

Album Review: Untitled Unmastered by Kendrick Lamar

All around, fans of hip-hop rejoiced on March 3rd, 2016 when Kendrick Lamar surprised everyone with the release of the follow-up album to his hugely successful and insightful To Pimp A Butterfly.  The eight track project features no album name or track names, but, however, does bring in a few key features on the project even though they are not listed on the track list. Many of the songs seem to be demos and or throw away tracks from the To Pimp a Butterfly recording sessions and the similar sound and subject content ring true throughout. 13345

The track is featured on BJ’s latest album, In My Mind, which is his very first release to the legendary Motown record label and will be released on February 19th, 2016.  The album features a ton of personal insight into the young singer’s mind and expresses some of the struggle that not only BJ, but everyone, is constantly fighting between good

Album Review: Public Enemy-Man Plans God Laughs

Public Enemy  (PE) the legendary rap group behind 1990's inspiring  hit " Fight The power"  has returned with their 13th LP entitled Man Plans God Laughs(MPGL).  The group who has become  known  over the  years as politically conscious and socially aware is back at it again, sticking it to the man and bringing cultural issues to the forefront with Chuck D's  compelling lyrics. MPGL  has  a very  short running time  clocking in at just under 30 minutes however, it's a very subtle listen that's  easy to digest. 11825

On- Radar: Who is Vince Staples?

Over the past few years, the name Vince Staples has been sparking a lot of buzz among the Hip-Hop  industry and blogs.  The California native first emerged onto people's radar when he appeared on "Epar" in 2010, which is featured on  Earl Sweatshirts debut album Earl. The hostile and vulgar lyrics mixed with a solid flow  gave listeners just enough to want to hear more.  Since then the two have simultaneously been rising to stardom on separate paths, but never straying too far apart as the two can be heard on a collaborative track on Earl's new album I Don't Like
